How one winning quarter became a match victory

Galatasaray’s result gives quarter scores, in Beşiktaş–Galatasaray order, of 19–22, 25–17, 20–21 and 19–20. Galatasaray won the first, third and fourth periods; its margins across those three total five points. Beşiktaş outscored Galatasaray by eight points in the second quarter. Subtracting five from eight leaves the final three-point difference. Winning more quarters is therefore not the same as finishing ahead on aggregate. This calculation compares the margins in the four published period scores, rather than offering a possession-by-possession interpretation.

Beşiktaş’s match centre records 19–22 after the first period, 44–39 at halftime, 64–60 before the final quarter and 83–80 at the finish. Adding Galatasaray’s quarters in sequence produces the same four checkpoints. An initial three-point Galatasaray lead became a five-point Beşiktaş advantage at halftime; that advantage fell by one point in each remaining period. Both records also identify Turkcell Basketbol Gelişim Merkezi as the venue. This was a fourth-week league match, not a final or a decision awarding a championship.

Galatasaray lists Şehmus Hazer, Aleksej Nikolic and KJ Simpson at 12 points each, with Jerome Robinson contributing 11. Those four contributions total 47, leaving 33 of the team’s points for other scorers. The club describes Simpson’s 12 in his first match as a contribution from the bench. These figures show scoring contributions; alone, they do not explain playing time, the complete shot distribution or tactical reasons for the defeat. Period-ending margins cannot reconstruct a particular possession, the use of a final shot or a player’s intentions. The original comparison here is limited to verifiable score totals.
