Cookies and Preference Controls
Effective 15 September 2026
At a glance
Essential storage, optional analytics, advertising technologies and preference controls.
1. What is a cookie?
Cookies and similar storage technologies are small pieces of data used to operate a site or remember a choice on your device. A cookie cannot by itself read files on your computer.
2. Categories and defaults
| Category | Purpose | Default |
|---|---|---|
| Essential | Session security, CSRF protection, load delivery, language and consent preference | On for the core service |
| Analytics | Aggregated measurement of page use, errors and performance | Off where consent is required |
| Marketing/advertising | Ad delivery, measurement, frequency control and permitted personalisation | Off until every advertising readiness gate passes |
3. The Cumhuriyet Atlas preference record
A consent choice is stored in an essential first-party cookie and local storage for no more than 180 days. Reopen the panel through “Privacy preferences” in the footer to choose essentials only or withdraw optional permissions. Deleting site storage in your browser also resets the choice.
4. Google advertising cookies
If Google AdSense is enabled, Google and third-party ad providers may use cookies, web beacons, IP addresses and device identifiers to serve ads, measure conversion/reach, limit repetition, prevent fraud and—only where permitted—personalise ads by interest. A Google advertising cookie may be set from Google or DoubleClick domains. Read Google’s AdSense cookie information and use Google Ad Settings.
5. Regional consent
The preference interface uses a trusted country signal. Before Google ads can be served in the EEA, UK or Switzerland, a Google-certified consent management platform integrated with IAB TCF must collect required consent, retain a record and provide withdrawal. Applicable US states receive sale/sharing or targeted-advertising opt-out messages. Advertising code does not load until this external platform is verified.
6. Browser controls and consequences
You can block cookies in your browser. Blocking essential cookies may affect secure forms, sessions or saved preferences; refusing analytics and advertising cookies does not block core content. “Allow all” does not automatically activate an advertising provider that is not ready.
6a. Device records and external media
| Record / service | Purpose and duration | Control |
|---|---|---|
cumhuriyet_consent | Analytics and marketing choices; up to 180 days. | Privacy preferences in the footer. |
| Session and CSRF records | Form security and session continuity; duration follows the server’s session configuration. | Clear site data in the browser or sign out of your account. |
| YouTube player | External connection and playback only when you choose to load a video; provider retention rules apply. | Separate load and close controls for each video; no autoplay. |
| Google and advertising partners | Ads, measurement and permitted personalisation; durations disclosed by the active provider and consent message. | Certified CMP, Google Ad Settings and site privacy preferences. |
Read Google Business Data Responsibility. Active advertising providers and their purposes are identified in the CMP’s vendor list. Clearing cookies does not automatically delete data already sent to a provider; use the applicable privacy request process.
7. Updates
If a new provider or purpose is added, this page, the consent interface and the processing record are updated before its code runs. The design also follows the Turkish KVKK’s official Guide on Cookie Applications.
Google Analytics 4 — update of 16 September 2026
Webz Fusion uses Google Analytics 4 to understand use of Cumhuriyet Atlas. The Google tag loads only after you allow analytics. Earlier permission that did not identify this new provider does not start this measurement. Choosing essential cookies only or withdrawing consent does not restrict access to content.
Consented measurement includes the visited page address and title, the referring page address without query parameters, browser/device information and cookie identifiers. Connecting to Google technically transmits your IP address, which may be used to derive approximate location. Google's IP processing practices can differ by region; see its official disclosure below. Our site tag does not send names, email addresses, user IDs, form contents, or address-bar query and fragment values. Google Signals and advertising personalisation through analytics are disabled.
The first-party _ga and _ga_* measurement cookies are set for up to 180 days in this installation, without extending their expiry on every visit. Consent also expires after no more than 180 days. Withdrawing analytics permission through “Privacy preferences” in the footer stops measurement and removes these cookies. To request deletion of previously transmitted data, use the privacy contact on this page.
The service provider is Google. Processing may occur in the United States and other countries where Google's infrastructure is located; details are available in Google's privacy and data-processing disclosures. This optional measurement relies on your consent.
