Aegean: make the second ancient city a comparison, not a repeat
Before collecting archaeological sites, decide why you want to compare two of them. Our İzmir guide treats Ephesus through the relationship between a city and its changing coast, and Pergamon through terrain and monumental settlement. If both matter to you, turn observations from the first day into questions for the second: why were public spaces with comparable functions placed so differently? The second site can then deepen the first visit instead of becoming its more tired repetition.
Do not make a beach visit and a substantial archaeological walk compulsory parts of the same day. Allocate time to outdoor walking, rest and the return journey separately, and allow the plan to shrink if weather or visiting conditions require it. Coastal and inland provinces in this directory do not imply identical transfer times or seasonal experiences. When choosing one base, write down which excursion it serves best. Being equally far from everything can leave too little time for any one place.
